Our main aim is to provide the children with a safe but stimulating environment, where they can continue expanding their English skills brought in from kindergarten. We move from reading readiness to reading, learn to recognize sight words, write sentences and stories, learn spelling and build oral skills.
We aim to develop a love for learning, to recognize the need for life-long learning. We would like to instill in children respect for each other’s opinions and accept differences. Abilities that will be developed:
Application of grammar and language conventions to communicate effictively.
Write complete sentences that begin with a capital letter and end with periods, question marks or exc lamation points.
The use of correct grade level spelling and reasonable phonetic spelling.
Capatalize names of people and places and the word I.
Writing of a simple story with evidence of a beginning , middle and ending.
Writing a story with at least 4 sentences.
Recognize and begin to correct mistakes in reading and writing.
Read simple words on sight.
Use pictures , phonics and other clues to figure out the meanings and correct pronunciation of unfamiliar words.
Use own words to retell a story after having read it (setting, main characters, what happened at the beginning, middle and end, the problem and the solution).
Write simple poems.
